Synagogue in
commercial use, 2005
To get to the
cemetery in Ustrzyki Dolne my guide and I walked along a narrow
footpath between garden plots on the edge of town; greeted the
derelict chilling his vodka in a small, cold stream; jumped the
stream; and climbed a small hill. The cemetery crowns the hill and
flows down the slopes. On a golden October afternoon the cemetery
seemed in complete and abandoned disarray with tombstones askew and
sliding down the hillside. On a subsequent visit in May the
cemetery was much more tranquil with lush green foliage. The only
visitors seem to be the local residents who cut through the cemetery
on their way to other destinations.
